Silent screen idol John Gilbert leads a stellar cast in this "all-talking" adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's classic play The Living Corpse. Infatuated with Lisa (Eleanor Boardman), the fiancée of his best friend Victor (Conrad Nagel), Russian wastrel Fedya (Gilbert) woos and marries her, but misses his drinking and gambling. Abandoning his wife to take up with a fiery gypsy (Renée Adorée), Fedya allows Lisa to believe he's dead so she can finally marry Victor. So when it's discovered he's still alive and his wife is accused of bigamy, Fedya must decide what's more important in life - Lisa' happiness or his own. Shot first, but released after His Glorious Night (1929), Gilbert's talking feature debut, Redemption reveals his voice as cultured but not as virile as his screen image demanded. Unable to make the transition to sound, Gilbert would appear in eight more films before his death from a heart attack at age 38 in January 1936.

Watch with your kids!

Watched this documentary with my 10 year old step-daughter and it was the perfect entryway into a deep ongoing conversation around body-issues, bullying, peer pressure and more. It also made me reconsider how I talked about my own weight concerns and how that may be affecting both of us in a negative way. This is very powerful film with some incredible perspectives from all ages/genders etc.

A Genuine Love Story
Christopher Nolen never disappoints when it comes to making great films. This film focuses on relationships, true friendship, love and commitment. The character, Cleavon “Von” Burkett, a restaurateur has to make amends within 72 hours to all the women he has mistreated in the past. Some of the female characters were downright crazy hilarious, and selecting Harry Lennix, one of my favorite actors, to play the role of GOD was an excellent pick. And of course Cleavon's best friend, played by Brian Hooks, brought so much humor to the story. The scenery is stunning, and all of the actors did a top-notched job. As witty as the film is, there are two important serious and powerful messages: Whatever choices you make in your life, can come at a cost, and just having sex does not necessarily lead to a first-rate, long lasting relationship. I really enjoyed this film, which has an ending you will never see coming. Congratulations, Christopher Nolen on bringing yet another...
I really enjoyed this film

I really enjoyed this film! It was a little romance and a little drama. It was what I expected it to be!

A Must Have For Your Movie Library

I love this movie! It is has so many elements. It is funny, dramatic, touching, a little sad. I think the director, Christopher Nolen did an excellent job bringing all of the characters to life and making them totally relatable. It is definitely one to watch more than once.
